Is anyone actually happy and perfectly okay with a show that is or was or will be completely gen?
Like, can you be happy if a show just completely stays away from ships?
I just, I know some people where being able to ship a couple sometimes can make or break a show, and some people who just absolutely want to stay as far away from ships as possible.
But how important is it really? Is it needed, do some shows truly need it, does it always make a show better or does it just come down to writing?
Like,
Heroes. For me, I am completely okay with not shipping anyone, I haven't since the very first episode and I'm fine knowing that I probably won't have anything near an OTP for this show. Which, personally, might be a point of the show.
But does the dashing of a possible Peter/Claire romance bum people?
( Spoiler here, only for aired episodes )Now something that's the opposite for me would be
Angel. I started watching that show not even thinking about shipping a couple. And then I felt I was slowly falling in love with Cordelia and Doyle. And then that was cruelly crushed. And I actually stopped watching.
Then I caught a later S5 episode (after having seen bits and pieces over the years), "Damage", and the opening sequence was just chilling. So, I started watching the last half of the final season. *sniff*
While watching
Angel S5 live, I was catching up on earlier episodes that were on repeat on another channel.
Suffice to say, I fell very hard to Wesley/Fred. And now, re-watching episodes, it's really become all about them for me, even if I enjoy the show without them. Of course, loving Wesley and Fred separately adds to loving them as a couple. But then, I adored Cordelia, thought Gunn was awesome and of course, Angel was just...something. (Something good, rest assured)
And then there's
Doctor Who, where I was almost discouraged to ship before even starting to watch it. But dude, "The End of the World", how the hell could I not think they're cute? And then throw "The Unquiet Dead" at me and you want me to just think of them as friends? Well, I very well could, very much so. But it was like this beautiful bonus to watch Nine and Rose in S1 and for me, it was watching this relationship bloom, growing trust and love. Would I have been okay if their relationship did seem completely platonic? Yes, completely because ultimately, it became nearly ALL ABOUT NINE for me. (Yes, I'm a Nine fangirl, sue me) I'll refrain from remarking about S2 because recent comments from RTD will just make me rant and that's not the point here.
I think I can also add
Jake 2.0 to the
Angel list because I started the show because I just love Christopher Gorham, but it just wasn't that good. Until I saw Jake and Diane together. That was just an awesome love story the writers were doing. That's committing to a ship, and if the outline for the show's finale was real, which I'm pretty sure it was, then they were
really committing.
I'm not making any remarks about SGA right now because I have another post to make about that show, so hold thoughts for that until then? :D
So, what are your thoughts? My pretty pretty f-list. ♥
Also, why the hell didn't anyone tell me that
Robin Hood (the newer one that aired on BBC) was so addicting? I just watched the first two episodes on BBC America and I'm currently acquiring the rest of the episodes, about to watch the third. DAMN.
Aw, you guys missed when I posted discussions like this, didn't you? ;-)
